If you have the Brush active, you can also hold down the Option (PC: Alt) key to temporarily switch to the Eyedropper, and click on any color in the photo to apply it to the current brush. The Eyedropper lets you pick up color from within the photo for the current brush. It’s good for blending the brushes with the background, but will work on any part of the photo. The Blender is a tool that allows you to smudge areas of the photo. Erase has Brush Size and Opacity controls similar to the Brush, but also has a Soft or Hard option for the brush edge. The toolbar: The five tools here are the Brush, Eraser, Blender, Eyedropper, and Color Wheel.Zoom allows you to select from preset zoom percentages.Particle Count increases the amount of particles used: More slows down the process, while less allows a more fluid paint. You can set pen pressure to control the Opacity as well. It’s better to keep this low and build up the effects. Brush Opacity sets the strength of the brush. You can also use Command-Option-drag (PC: Ctrl-Alt-drag) to change the size of the brush. You don’t want ParticleShop to edit over your original file ever. If you’re coming from a RAW file, this can be ignored, but if you’re coming from a rendered file like a TIFF or a JPEG, make sure that you selected Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments, or Edit a Copy.

That still doesn’t mean that I can’t have fun with my photos! ParticleShop is a great tool for just that. In fact, coming from an engineering background, you could say I’m probably exactly the opposite. Let me start by saying that I’m not an artist in the drawing or painting sense. The range of looks in these brush packs means that once you get hooked, you’ll need to get them all. Other brush packs can be purchased from within the program or directly from Corel. The app ships with a Core Pack that has a set of 11 brushes to get you going. Based on Painter, you get a pressure-sensitive experience that changes the brush under your cursor as you push harder, or even tilt your pen. This brush-based plug-in will jumpstart your interest in adding a little fantasy to your photos, as well as injecting some fun into your postprocessing. ParticleShop from Corel is a fantastic plug-in that allows you to easily create illustrative elements to blend into your photos.
